This set feature three plays written by John Drinkwater, an English poet and dramatist known before World War I as one of the Dymock poets. In 1918, he had his first major success with his play Abraham Lincoln, which was followed with others in a similar vein, including Mary Stuart and Oliver Cromwell.
This set includes:
'Oliver Cromwell: A Play, 1921' which depicts the life of Oliver Cromwell, an English statesman, politician, and soldier, widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of the British Isles.
'Robert E. Lee: A Play', 1923, depicting the life of Robert Edward Lee, a Confederate general during the American Civil War.
'Pawns: Three Poetic Plays', a collection of plays about topics such as a storm, and fighters in the Trojan war.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloths, lacking the original dust wrappers. Externally very smart with fading to the spines, bumping to the front board to 'Oliver Cromwell', very slight marks to the boards, and scattered light damp stains to the boards to 'Pawns'. Offsetting to the endpapers. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with spotting to the fore edge and only the odd spot throughout.
