A very scarce first edition, in a signed crushed morocco binding by the publisher, Eyre & Spottiswoode.

The author's own copy, with his inscription to the title page head, and his contextual notations in ink to six leaves and to a rear blank, providing dates of death of those individuals killed in the Great War, the year after publication.

Loosely inserted is a publisher's order from for another work on family history from the author, alongside typed out notes from 'A History of the County of Bedford', and a signed sheet reading 'Sir, the enclosed page 2.A. is for completion of pamphlet, yours sincerely John C. Pickering' and addressed 'To Spencer Pickering Esquire'.

Celebrated chemist and horticulturalist Percival Spencer Umfreville Pickering offers a genealogical study of the Pickering family from the early 18th century to the present day, examining their branches in Barlby, York, and Wetherby, based on the painstaking search of parish registers, official records, family documents and contemporary memories.

Condition

In a crushed morocco signed binding with gilt detailing. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Signed by author to title page head, with ink inscriptions and notations from the author to six leaves, and to a rear blank. Four loosely inserted typed letters and pieces of ephemera inserted.
