1916 The First Eve Book
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, Signed
A signed copy of the scarce First Eve Book, with a fascinating association. With Annie Fish's signature laid down to the first plate.
With the illustrated bookplate of Gladys Emma Peto to the front free endpaper. Peto was the artist for the series 'The Letters of Phrynette' in The Sketch. This was so similar to "Letters of Eve" that there was a court case over the matter, discussed in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
This work describes Eve's experiences during the first part of the First World War as a hospital nurse, at war-time dances, and employed as a policewoman.
With the text provided by 'Fowl' (Olivia Maitland Davidson), and the illustrations by Fish (Annie Fish).
Undated; dated 1916 via Jisc.
With advertisements for Tatler to front and rear pastedowns.
