Illustrated with eight coloured plates, two folding plates, a double page plate, and numerous monochrome illustrations throughout, including Hollar's map of London in 1666 which depicts the destruction caused by the fire of London. Also includes a loose facsimile of a map of the River Thames. Collated, complete.
A pictorial history of London published by 'The Studio', influential magazine with a focus on fine arts with great influence on the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements. Founded in 1893 by Charles Holme, editor. Text by Malcolm C. Salaman.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two slight handling marks to boards. ink mark to spine. Very slight cockling to endpapers. Bookplate from James William Lindus Forge to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and generally bright, if slightly age toned with one or two spots.
