What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The first trade edition, first issue, with a comma after "9th September" on the title page and front wrap. Purdy pp. 157-158.

This first trade edition followed the initial publication in the Times, and Clement Shorter's folio issue of twelve copies.

Hardy's brief, poignant poem reflects on the grim realities faced by soldiers at the start of the First World War.

He presents a sombre, resigned tone, emphasising duty and the inevitability of death rather than a romanticised view of warfare.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with light spotting towards gutters.
