What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

The first UK edition. Translated by Alexander Gray.

In the publisher's original orange cloth.

Published anonymously, this book is now known to be written by German lawyer and pacifist, Richard Grelling, who condemns Germany here for their foreign policies that largely contributed to beginning the Great War.

Although banned in Germany, the work was translated into many languages and subsequently sold many copies.

Printed excerpts in the form of propaganda leaflets from its text were dropped by aircraft of the British Expeditionary Force into the Imperial German Army's trenches in France before the Battle of the Somme in 1916 in an endeavour to undermine the fighting morale of the German troops situated there.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities, most notably to the spine head and tail. A few marks to the boards. Bookplate of one William Low to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the half title and rear endpaper. With the odd spot to the first and last few leaves.
