First edition. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and three black-and-white plates. Collated complete. He travels to Constantinople to protect the Empress Irene from her son Constantine VL and other enemies of the Eastern Roman Empire. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. Illustrated by Arthur Cadwgan Michael, a British painter and illustrator.
Condition
In the original orange cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
