A delightful travelogue recounting the author's time spent in Japan, where she resided in the Embassy in Tokyo.
Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, a folding map of Japan and fifty-three monochrome plates. Collated, complete.
Written by Boston heiress and society hostess, Isabel Anderson (nee Weld Perkins), who married American diplomat Larz Anderson in 1897 and embarked on a life of luxury, travelling widely around Europe and Asia. Anderson served a short stint as United States Ambassador to Japan, which would align with their residency at the Embassy.
Condition
Rebacked, with the original cloth to the front board and spine and laid down. Externally, very smart, with only wear really to the edges of the original cloth. Bookplate of one Cliff Parfit to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with occasional spots, heaviest to pages 8-25. Author's inscription to the half title.
