With a frontispiece and 16 further plates. Collated, complete. 

An autobiographical work by Arminius Vambéry, a Hungarian Orientalist and traveler. He was known to be a intrepid explorer and daring adventurer who journeyed through Persia and Central Asia. 

Vambéry set out to prove the links between the Hungarian and Turkish language, but became embroiled in the Great Game, working for 'The Times' and on the payroll of the British secret service. 



Condition

In publisher's cloth boards, rebacked. Externally, smart. Slight shelf wear to extremities, most significant to corners of boards. Slight rubbing to boards with the odd small mark. Offsetting to endpapers. Ex Libris plate to front paste down. Previous owner's bookplate to rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the odd spot. Blind stamp to title page. Light spotting to fore edge.
