First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, sixteen colour tipped in plates, one colour plate, and eight black-and-white plates. Collated complete. A tribute to the Belgian King, Albert I, popularly referred to as the Knight King or Soldier King in reference to his role during the First World War. This work also acts as an anthology of tributes to those other men and women representing their own countries throughout the conflict. With contributions from many important writers of the day, providing notices, poetry, prose, and musical scores. Containing artwork from Rackham, Nielsen, Dulac, and many others.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the fore edge. With light age toning to the endpapers.
