1914 Indian Love
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding, Rebound
In a half morocco binding with cloth boards. This volume includes a tissue‑guarded portrait frontispiece of the author. This is a reissue of Laurence Hope’s 1905 collection, presenting fervent lyric poems of passion, loss, and Sufi‑tinged yearning set against Indian backdrops. Written by Anglo‑Indian poet Adela Florence “Violet” Nicolson under her male pseudonym. Her most famous piece, "Kashmiri Song," became a popular parlour song, set to music by Amy Woodforde‑Finden in 1902. Thomas Hardy praised Laurence Hope’s poetry for its “tropical luxuriance and Sapphic fervour” and commended what he saw as her “impassioned effusions”.
