A collection of forty-nine beautifully illustrated plates showcasing the work of Dutch sculptor and wood-carver Grinling Gibbons in St. Paul's Cathedral London. Gibbons (1648-1721) was known for his beautiful wood-carvings, which are featured throughout England in Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and more.
Collated, and containing plates 13 to 61 taken from the work Grinling Gibbons And His Compeers: Illustrated By Sixty Phototypes Of The Principal Carvings In The Churches Of Saint James's, Piccadilly And Saint Paul's Cathedral (1914) - not including plates 1 to 12 from this work.

A fascinating association copy previously owned by Sir Alexander Colin Cole, an officer of arms at the College of Arms London. He eventually obtained the rank of Garter Principal King of Arms, the highest heraldic office in England.
Condition
Bound in full cloth binding by E.A. Weeks & Co., with their binder's sticker to the front pastedown. Externally, very smart, with just some minor shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Bookplate of Sir Alexander Colin Cole to the front pastedown. Previous owner's small ink signature to the front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. A few light spots to the pages, which are otherwise bright and clean.
