What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of John Foster Fraser's trip to Panama, published by Cassell and Company in 1913.

Original cloth binding.

With a frontispiece, forty eight photographic plates and a folding colour plate of the Panama Canal route. Collated complete.

The plate containing the Gatun lock is located on p.134 rather than p.138.

In his travelogue, Fraser delves into the geography, history and culture of the region. As well as being a travel author, Fraser was a special parliamentary correspondent. Such shines through with his commentary on the completion of the Panama Canal and its value for American enterprise.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally, smart. Fading to the spine. Bumping to the head and tail. Slight splitting to tail joint. Minimal handling marks. Internally, binding strained in places, with leaves 135-138 detached but present. Plates very clear. Pages bright and clean. Slight offsetting to endpapers and the odd spot.
