Colour Plates, Illustrated, With Dustwrapper
An illustrated work in the publisher's original cloth binding, the first edition to be illustrated with colour plates by Cecil Aldin, with one of the colour plates inset to the front board. Enclosed in the very scarce dust wrapper.
Previous owner's bookplate to the front paste down, dated 1930.
Illustrated with six lovely colour plates, each with captioned tissue guard, by Cecil Aldin (1870-1935). Aldin was a British artist and illustrator best known for his paintings and sketches of animals, sports, and rural life.
A delightful illustrated children's work telling the humorous tale of a six month old bulldog, from Nobel Prize for Literature winning Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck (1862-1949).
This work was translated into English by A. Teixeira de Mattos.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with a colour plate by Cecil Aldin inset to the front board. Externally, in lovely condition. Binding is tender between pages 32 and 33, and 48 and 49; otherwise, internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. A little offsetting to the end papers. Dust wrapper is sound. Significant losses to the front of the wrap and to the head and tail to the spine of the wrap. A couple of closed tears to the folds and to the front of the wrap. Small tape repair to the verso of the wrap.
