A Victorian realist, Hardy was highly critical of much in Victorian society, especially on the declining status of rural people in Britain, such as those from his native South West England. Much of his writing explored this, and was set in the semi-fictional region of Wessex.

Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear to back strip tail and bumping to back strip head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with the odd spot and handling mark to first few leaves.
