What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding

Bound in smart black morocco, this is a smart, decorative copy, published in 1912 - an indication of the popularity of the first edition, published in 1903.

A semi-autobiographical novel, framed as a collection of diary entries of fictional writer Henry Ryecroft, as if edited by Gissing.
Henry Ryecroft's unexpected relief from the toils of his everyday life, in the form of an inheritance, allows him to carry out a contemplative, rural existence in Devon. Upon his death, extracts of his observations are cultivated for publication.

Decorated with gilt detail to boards, spine, and spine tips, as well as a gilt top edge, and gilt doublures, bordering marbled end papers.

Condition

Bound in black morocco, with gilt motifs to corners of boards. Externally, very smart. Fading and gilt motif to spine. Slight age toning to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound, spotting to page edges. Pages bright and clean.
