Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, seven further colour plates, and forty-five further monochrome plates and illustrations. Collated, complete.

Author C. D. Mackellar details his journeys across northern Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, China, and Japan, and offers descriptions of the Torres Straits islanders, the state of the Solomon Islands and New Britain under German rule, and a discussion of the Dutch East Indies.

With a former owner's inscription, 'Pa from Edith', dated May 11, 1917, to the front free endpaper.

The Mackellar Islands in Antarctica were named after the author, as he served as a patron of an Antarctic expedition.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. A touch of shelf wear to back strip tail, otherwise externally excellent. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Frontispiece detached to head. Pages clean and bright.
