This impressive work reproduces the pictorial material, including miniatures and drawings, found in Queen Mary's Psalter, which included the Old Testament cycle and calendar, followed by Canticles, Litanies, and prayers. Queen Mary's psalter was actually produced centuries prior to her birth, possibly for Isabella of France (1295-1358), Queen of England and consort of Edward II. The psalter was was produced in England, perhaps in London or East Anglia, circa 1310/20, by a single artist now known only as the 'Queen Mary Master.'
Bound in crushed half morocco with cloth to the boards and housed in a cloth chemise and slipcase.
Condition
Bound in crushed half morocco with cloth to the boards and housed in a cloth chemise and slipcase. Externally excellent with very minimal edge wear. Bookplate of Eric Sweet to the front pastedown. Front hinge strained after front blank. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. The slip and chemise are excellent with only the odd minor mark.
