With a colour frontispiece, one folding colour plate, and three colour plates. Title page states "with eight illustrations in colour" while the contents page only lists five items, all of which are present. Following an expedition through an unexplored region of Africa, led by Allan Quartermain, as they search for the missing brother of one of the party. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. Illustrated by Arthur Cadwgan Michael, a Welsh painter and illustrator. Dated from the British Library.

Condition

In the original pictorial blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound with plate facing page 327 detached but present. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the extremities.
