Edith Nesbit's beloved children's classic, 'Five Children and It' follows a group of five siblings as they move from London to the Kent countryside. Whilst playing together they discover the Psammead, a grumpy and ugly sand-fairy, who has the ability to grant their wishes.
This novel was first serialised as short stories in the 'Strand'. The children and the Psammead reappear in the sequels 'The Phoenix and the Carpet' and 'The Story of the Amulet'.
Edith Nesbit was one of the most popular children's authors during the Edwardian era, and is still perhaps best known for 1906 novel 'The Railway Children'.
