First edition. Illustrated with twenty-one colour plates, plate III is displayed to the front board. Collated complete. A popular work on butterflies and moths, with descriptions of genera and species; explanations of entomology and classification; and advice on rearing, breeding and collecting. With an introductory chapter on entomology, its meaning and the idea of the perfect insect. Written by Henry Rowland-Brown, an English entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. Rowland-Brown was a member of the Entomological Society of France and the the Lepidopterological Society of Geneva.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding with pictorial plate to the front board. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the cloth. Small splits to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine with minor loss to the head. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and light age toning to the extremities. Further age toning to the endpapers.
