The first Arthur Rackham illustrated edition, with two later editions housed in . 

Illustrated by Arthur Rackham with a colour frontispiece, many monochrome plates and vignettes and twelve colour plates to the first edition. Monochrome vignettes and seventeen monochrome plates to the '1994' edition. A colour frontispiece, monochrome plates and vignettes, and eleven monochrome plates to the '1979' edition. Collated, complete.

This set features three editions of Arthur Rackham's illustrated version of Aesop's fables, translated by V. S. Vernon, with an introduction from G. K. Chesterton. The works feature a collection of charming and popular fables credited to Aesop, a Greek storyteller and fabulist whose tales were characterised by the anthropomorphic animal characters. 

During the ‘Golden Age’ of British book illustration Rackham was one of its leading artists. He used expressive line paired with a subtle use of watercolour to create his beautiful images. 

The first edition is in the original publisher's decorative cloth. The later editions are in the original paperback, and the original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth, original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper, and the original paper covers. Externally, the two later editions are lovely. The first edition is excellent with only minimal edge wear and a slight lean. Minor offsetting to the endpapers to the first edition. The dust wrapper is excellent with minimal edge wear and slight sunning to the spine. Internally firmly bound with minimal age toning to the paperback. The other two are clean and bright. The clamshell is excellent with Eric Sweet's bookplate inside,
