With a folding frontispiece map of the Mediterranean, thirty-seven maps (a number of which are dual-spread) and forty-nine plans (seventeen folding). Collated, complete.
These 'Baedeker' handbooks, from the company of German publisher Karl Baedeker, set the standard for authoritative guidebooks for tourists. They contain, among other things, maps and information regarding routes, travel facilities, noteworthy sights, attractions and museums, written by specialists.
This volume, comprising eighty-five routes, covers Madeira, the Canary Islands, the Coast of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. This is also the only Baedeker handbook in English containing a description of Constantinople.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with mild rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional light spots, largely concentrated to the first and last few leaves. Tape reinforced to a 5" closed tear to the folding map frontispiece, which has an additional 2.5" inch closed tear, not taped.
