The author of the letter thanks Clinch for a book, and continues 'I beg your acceptance of the volume here sent; though not written by me, I had a good deal to do with its composition, such as placing my notes at the author's disposal. I found that my own volumes are all too technical, while this may prove to contain some pages of interest to you'.
