The first edition of this scarce work.
Signed by the author to the recto of the front endpaper, however the inscription has been partially obscured by a prior owner's label. The inscription is still visible, reading "To the Rev Mr Aveling, With the Author's kind regards, George Chambers, Christmas 1924".
An insight into the Battle of Bussaco, part of the Peninsular War, fought on the 27th September 1810 in the Portuguese mountain range of Serra do Bucaco. The battle resulted in a British victory against the French forces.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding plate, seven folding maps to the pocket to the rear, and in-text illustrations throughout. Collated, complete.

Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine is faded. Discolouration to the extremities. Light marks and a little light rubbing to the cloth. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are starting but firm. Author's inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, partially obscured by a prior owner's label. Heavy ink mark to the tail of the textblock, from the paste downs and endpapers, lighter to the first and last few pages. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a few light handling marks, including marks to the maps.
