Illustrated with 209 illustrations by Joseph Crawhall, E. Caldwell, and Abel Chapman, and from photographs, including 32 monochrome plates, including a frontispiece. Collated, complete. 

A lovely copy of this work by naturalists Abel Chapman and Walter J. Buck, documenting their travels and field observations across remote regions of Spain, with vivid descriptions of the country’s landscapes, wildlife, and rural life, particularly in Andalusia and the Sierra Morena, blending natural history with travel narrative.

Abel Chapman (1851-1929) and Walter J. Buck (1849-1917) were British sportsmen, conservationists, and authors known for their detailed studies of wildlife and hunting in Africa and Europe, with Chapman notable for having contributed in saving the Spanish Ibex from extinction.

Condition

Bound in half morocco with brown cloth boards. Externally very smart. Slight rubbing to boards and extremities. Very minor offsetting to endpapers. One or two of the slightest handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. pages bright and clean with the odd scattered spot to first and last few leaves. Small area of lower perimeter of final few leaves cockled with slight damp staining, primarily to the publisher's advertisements, not affecting the primary text.
