    This copy features sixty-four charming colour plate illustrations. Collated, complete. 

    Ogilvy’s watercolours record the architectural “relics and memorials” of the Square Mile on the eve of the First World War, capturing historic buildings, narrow courts, and ecclesiastical landmarks that in many cases have since disappeared.

    The illustrations bring to life The Charterhouse Gateway, Old House in Fetter Lane & Wesleyan Chapel, Great St Helen’s, Salisbury Square, and views in and around Smithfield and St Bartholomew’s, among many other corners of the City of London.

     

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Slight bumping to extremities. Slight fading to spine. The odd slight handling mark to boards Rubbing to boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in places, but holding. Slight cockling to pages, heavier to fore edge and gutter. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot and handling mark, heavier to fore edge with slight age toning.
