A very smart, and uncommon blue cloth presentation copy of Sir Alexander Arbuthnot's autobiography.
The last of his publications, edited by his wife, and published after his death.
This copy features a silver gilt crest to the front board, bearing the author's family motto, 'Laus Deo', and is decorated with a gilt top edge.
Arbuthnot attended Rugby Boarding School, in Warwickshire, and spent many years of his life in India, working as a Civil Servant, during which he was an influential figure in the establishment of Madras University, and was a founder of the Madras Cricket Club.
Features a photograph frontispiece, and 15 further monochrome plates.
Includes 104 pages of adverts for other works, some leaves unopened.
Condition
Bound in its original blue cloth. Externally, in lovely condition. Slight shelf wear. Wrinkling to spine. Very occasional marks to boards. Front hinge starting. Odd handling mark to front endpaper. Inscription to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. "Presentation copy" stamp to title page. Pages bright and clean, very occasional spotting.
