The first editions of three works by Scottish illustrator Jessie M. King, who was one of the artists known as the Glasgow Girls, and described in 1927 as 'the pioneer of batik in Great Britain'.
While the two works on Scottish cities are illustrated throughout by King, 'Memories' is simply in paper wraps designed by King.
Present here are:
The 1910 first edition of 'The Grey City of the North: A Book of Drawings'. With an illustrated title page and contents leaf, and a further twenty-four plates, all views of Edinburgh. Collated, complete.
The 1911 first edition of 'The City of the West: A Book of Drawings'. With twenty-five tipped in plates depicting Glasgow. Collated, complete.
The 1912 first edition of 'R. L. Stevenson Memories', illustrated with twenty-five tipped in plates. Collated, complete.
This work tells the story of Stevenson's life through captioned plates.
With an advertisement leaf to the rear of 'Memories'.
Condition
In the publisher's original illustrated wraps, which are adhered at the back strips to plain boards. Externally, wraps lightly age toned, with the odd spot to perimeters. Edgewear to wrap heads and tails. Loss of paper to back strip heads of 'Memories'. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright, with the odd spot throughout, most concentrated to 'Memories'.
