Richard Jefferies (1848-1887) was an English nature writer, notable for his depiction of English rural life in essays, natural history books, and novels. His work was greatly influenced by his childhood, which was spent on a small Wiltshire farm.
In this work, Jefferies provides a guide to the wildlife of Wiltshire, in its villages, farmhouses, orchards, woodlands, fields, and lakes, and also on the Wiltshire Downs. He gives particular mention to bird life, with passages devoted to starlings, rooks and rookeries, migration, and wildfowl.
Condition
In a quarter vellum binding. Externally, generally smart, with a mark to the front board. The boards are a little bowed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with offsetting to the end papers and to the half title page.
