Illustrated with a vibrant colour frontispiece and vignette colour illustration to the title page from French historical and decorative painter Georges Rochegrosse, alongside thirteen etchings within the text. Collated, complete.
This novel, first published in 1890, is based on events in the life of Saint Thais of Egypt, a legendary convert to Christianity who is said to have lived in the 4th century.

Condition
In a half morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and publisher's original front wrap bound in. A touch of rubbing to back strip head and head of front joint, otherwise externally excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
