What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Leather Binding, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

In the publisher's original quarter morocco binding with cloth boards.

Complete with the very scarce original price clipped dust wrapper.

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, twenty-nine colour plates, and monochrome plates throughout. Collated, complete.

First published in 1861, Mrs. Beeton’s Book of Household Management became the definitive domestic guide of the Victorian era. It incorporates thousands of recipes alongside practical notes on marketing, food preservation, cleaning, and social customs, adapting the original Victorian ideals to Edwardian tastes.

Though Isabella Beeton (1836–1865) died young, her name endured through countless revised editions, some omitting her obituary to preserve the illusion of her continued authorship. Drawing heavily from earlier culinary writers such as Maria Eliza Rundell and Eliza Acton, the work expanded to over two thousand pages by 1907 and sold nearly two million copies by 1868.
