Description

Folding Maps, Illustrated, Leather Binding

Later edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, a folding map to the rear, nineteen images across fifteen plates, and six in-text images. Collated complete. A journal of Darwin's research into the natural history and geology of different countries explored during the almost five year round the world voyage of H.M.S. Beagle. This voyage took place under Captain Robert FitzRoy, an English officer of the Royal Navy, politician and scientist who served as the second governor of New Zealand and achieved lasting fame as the captain for this famous voyage. Darwin spent most of that time on land investigating geology and making natural history collections, keeping careful notes of his observations and theoretical speculations, while HMS Beagle surveyed and charted coasts. Written by Charles Robert Darwin, an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist, widely known for his contributions to evolutionary biology.
