In the publisher's original cloth binding with a decorative botanical illustration to the front board. 

First edition. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifteen plates. Collated, complete. 

With eight leaves of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

This work eloquently describes the author's garden and its surrounding countryside in his hometown of Clapham, Yorkshire. Starting from the early spring, he charmingly details the character of the garden as winter disappears. 

With an extensive index of plant names towards the rear of the work. 

From traveller and plant collector, Reginald Farrer, who was known to bring back a variety of species from Asia during his travels and plant many of them in his own garden.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slght rubbing and bumping to exrtemities. One or two minor spots to damp staining to boards. Slight scattered spotting and offsetting to endpapers. Previous owner's inscriptions to front free endpaper and front paste down. The palte facing page 194 is daly fully disbound, but present.
