What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Fine Binding, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

In the original German.

The first edition of this work, in black letter type. Identified as the first edition rather than a later reprint via the delightful gold highlighting to the plates.

Illustrated with twelve chromolithographs by Viennese artist Hanns Pellar. Collated, complete.

Following a visit to Versailles, Pellar was inspired to create fantastical historically inspired scenes, which Ostini constructed a children's fairy tale around.

With the bookplate of Anita Lippmann to the front free endpaper.

Critics and reviewers find the inspiration of Gustav Klimt in Pellar's illustrations.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth backed paper covered boards. Externally, excellent. Hinges strained, as is common with this work. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
