What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The first edition of this very scarce work.

A compilation of the popular fairy tales selected from Andrew Lang's colourful 'Fairy Books' series.

This scarce work compiles tales from Lang's Blue, Brown, Green, Violet, and Yellow Fairy Books, which were originally published in 1889 to 1904.

Lang's variation of the popular tale 'Beauty and the Beast' is a variant of Villeneuve's, with lavish description of Beast's palace, which helped to shape the visuals of later adaptations.

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, fourteen monochrome plates, and in-text illustrations.

Collated, complete.

Besides the titular tale 'Beauty and the Beast', this volume includes 'The Mermaid and the Boy', 'The Princess Who Was Hidden Underground', 'The Girl Who Pretended To Be a Boy', 'Virgilius the Sorcerer', 'Fairer-Than-a-Fairy', and more.

Andrew Lang is best known for these collections of fairy tales, and was an avid collector of folk and fairy tales. He was a Scottish poet, novelist, and literary critic.

Illustrated by Henry Justice Ford, a noted English illustrator who is best known for his beautiful illustrations for Lang's works.

Two pages of adverts to the rear.
