1908 The Plays of Richard Brinsley Sheridan
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding, Signed Binding
The forth impression of this Macmillan Library of English Classics edition.
In signed full calf binding by Bickers and Son, with gilt detailing, dentelles and marbled endpapers.
This work contains eight prominent plays from Anglo-Irish playwright, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, including The Rivals, The Duenna and A Trip to Scarborough.
From the library of David Horne, an English film and stage actor who has starred in many Hollywood titles such as 'Gentlemen's Agreement', 'The Mill on the Floss', and 'Goodbye Again'.
He was generally seen portraying pompous, self-satisfied characters. Although he never managed to rise to the "star" level in his screen acting career, he was an indispensable character actor, and played many utility parts such as desk clerks, newspaper editors, police officials, lawyers and doctors.
The bookplate to the front pastedown signals the book as a gift to Horne from one A. G. Radcliffe "on leaving Fonthill".
