1908 The Phoenix and the Carpet
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The third impression of this work, which was first published in 1904. The 'Unwin's Colonial Library' issue, without the gilt illustration to the centre of the front board.
This is the second in a trilogy of novels beginning with the well known 'Five Children and It', and concluding with 'The Story of the Amulet', all with the same family of children as the central characters. In this novel, the children find an egg hidden in their nursery carpet, which swiftly hatches into the form of a talking phoenix.
Illustrated throughout with a frontispiece and vignette and full page illustrations by popular illustrator of children's works, H. R. Millar.
Edith Nesbit was one of the most popular children's authors during the Edwardian era, and is still perhaps best known for 1906 novel 'The Railway Children'.
