First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The very scarce first edition, first impression of Edith Nesbit's charming tale follows a young boy who inherits the dilapidated Arden Castle, and with the help of a magical Mouldiwarp, travels through time with his sister, searching for clues about a lost treasure. 

A sequel was published the following year. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty-three further illustrations from popular illustrator of children's works, H. R. Millar. Collated, complete.

With an advertisement leaf to the rear, and 1914 inscription to recto of frontispiece.

From political activist and children's writer Edith Nesbit, author of such novels as 'The Railway Children' and 'Five Children and It'.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Boards bright. Light fading to back strip, with rubbing resulting in small losses of cloth to back strip tail and front joint. Front hinge strained and a touch tender. Lacking front free endpaper. Inscription to recto of frontispiece. Internally, binding strained. Pages clean and bright.
