    This is the twelfth edition, a vanishingly scarce copy of this work.

    This copy features eighty black-and-white photogravure illustrations, 21 of which are full page plates. Collated, complete.

    This is a vivid portrayal of London life, including street scenes, social life, festivals and customs, sports and games, the “stomach” of London, maritime life, commerce and finance, police, administration, educational institutions, and the military, among others.

    This volume provides a charming overview of English customs and institutions through a sophisticated French lens.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Tear at head of spine, with cloth separating from spine. The odd slight handling mark to boards. Slight rubbing to extremities and boards. Slight bumping to extremities. Offsetting to endpapers. Very slight soiling to cloth with the odd minor spot to rear boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in place, but remaining firm. Pages bright and clean, with age slight age toning, not uncommon with this paper.
