Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and fifteen colour plates. Collated complete. Considered by many to be Goethe's magnum opus and one of the greatest works of German literature. Faust is a tragic play in two parts mainly written in rhymed verse. Part one focuses on the soul of Faust, which is eventually sold to the Devil, with part two discussing social phenomena such as psychology, history and politics, in addition to mystical and philosophical topics. Written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a German polymath, who is widely regarded as the greatest and most influential writer in the German language. Translated by Abraham Hayward, an English writer and translator. Illustrated by William Andrew Pogany, a prolific Hungarian illustrator of children's and other books. Dated from the British Library.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the first and last few pages. Minor age toning to the extremities. Front free endpaper has been removed.
