Volume I - 1655-1656. With an introduction by English critic, literary historian and editor, George Saintsbury, followed by 'The Blunderer' and 'Lover's Quarrels'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates.
Volume II - 1659-1661. 'The Affected Ladies', 'Sganerelle, or the Husband who thought himself wronged', 'Don Garcie de Navarre, or the Jealous Prince', 'The School for Husbands' and 'The Bores'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and four plates.
Volume III - 1662-1664. 'The School for Wives', 'The School for Wives Criticised', 'The Impromptu of Versailles', 'The Compulsory Marriage' and 'The Princess of Elis'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and four plates.
Volume IV - 1664-1665. 'Tartuffe, or the Hypocrite', 'Don Juan, or the Feast with the Statue' and 'Love's the Best Doctor'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates.
Volume V - 1666-1668. 'The Misanthrope', 'The Physician in Spite of Himself', 'Melicerte', 'The Sicilian or Love makes the Painter' and 'Amphitryon'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and four plates.
Volume VI - 1668-1669. 'George Dandin, or The Outwitted Husband', 'The Miser' and 'Monsieur de Pourceaugnac'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates.
Volume VII - 1670-1671. 'The Courtly Lovers', 'The Citizen turn'd Gentleman' and 'The Knavery of Scapin'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and three plates.
Volume VIII - 1671-1673. 'The Countess of Escarbagnas', 'The Learned Ladies' and 'The Hypochondriac'. Illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates.
Collated, complete.
Condition
Uniformly bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, very smart, with fading to the spines and minor shelf wear. Marks to the boards of Volume V. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spotting throughout Volume VIII and the odd spot across the rest of the set.
