Scarce edition. J. Cuthbert Hadden's The Great Operas Series. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and three colour plates. Collated complete. A popular opera set in Nuremberg in the mid-16th century, revolving around the city's guild of Meistersinger (Master Singers), an association of amateur poets and musicians who were primarily master craftsmen of various trades. Written by Wilhelm Richard Wagner, a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is chiefly known for his operas.
Condition
In the original white cloth binding with a pictorial paper plate to the front board. Externally, smart with minor rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and minor age toning to the extremities. Further age toning to the endpapers.
