First edition. Illustrated with twenty maps and plans, eight of which are folding, and many of which feature colour. With an additional six folding plates in a pocket to the rear. Collated complete. An informative history of the French military campaigns that were undertaken on behalf of Napoleon Bonaparte from 1796 to 1815.Contents include 'First Coalition', 'Second Coalition', 'Campaign in Russia' 'The Peninsular War', and 'The War with the United States'. With an appendix and index. Written by J. H. Anderson, who was a lecturer at King's College London as well as a barrister.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with marks to the cloth. Splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine as well as the joints, resulting in light fraying. Front hinge starting between pages vi and vii. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning to the first and last few pages. A contemporary ink inscription to page vii, with the bookseller's label to the front pastedown. The odd closed tear to the folding maps at the rear.
