A collection of nineteen poems for children, ruminating on the state of childhood with poems such as 'The Little King', 'Eight O'Clock', 'Faded Tapestry', 'The Old Chest', 'A Love Story', and more.

Illustrated with twelve colour plates and in-text decorations. 

Collated, complete.

By the sister duo Millicent and Githa Sowerby; Millicent was the illustrator, her popular works being compared to Kate Greenaway. Githa was the poet of the duo, who is best remembered today for her play 'Rutherford & Son'.

Condition

In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, with some discolouration and light marks to the boards. Very minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Cloth is a little rubbed. Spots to the fore edge. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spots.
