First edition. Illustrated with seventy-seven colour plates and a folding map to the rear. Collated complete. A charming exploration of the country of Canada, including the maritime provinces, the Lower St. Lawrence Valley, Ottawa, Montreal, Ontario, Manitoba, British Colombia and the Canadian Lake region. Being a descriptive travel guide, as well as providing historical commentary on the different areas. Written by William Wilfred Campbell, a Canadian poet who was widely considered an unofficial Poet Laureate of Canada. Illustrated by Thomas Mower Martin, an English-born Canadian landscape painter dubbed "the father of Canadian art".
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the cloth. Front hinge starting. Internally, generally firmly bound with the first few pages loosening and pages1/2 detached but present. This is due to gutta-percha binding. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Age toning to the endpapers with contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
