An impressive study of the British yachts and yachtsmen, presenting a complete history from the middle of the sixteenth century, up to the beginning of the twentieth century.
The editor of this work offers a study of the progress of yachting in Britain from its earliest stages to its blooming popularity. Whilst looking at eminent yachtsmen throughout the centuries, this work also explores the architecture and engineering of a yacht, and how that has advanced, for example with the development of steam yachting.
Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece of King Edward VII in his yachting attire, alongside portraits of the Emperor of Germany, and the King of Spain. Illustrated with a total of three-hundred and forty plates, of which fifty-seven are photogravures. Collated, complete.
Condition
Rebound in a modern cloth binding, with renewed endpapers. Externally, generally smart, with marks to the boards and spines. Light bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with a few scattered spots. Edge wear and tape repairs to page 193/194.
