Early Edition, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Complete in three volumes.

Containing the third edition of Volume I, and the first editions of Volume II and III.

Richly illustrated throughout with monochrome frontispieces, monochrome vignettes and photographs taken by the author.

This extensive work was created by Charles Latham, a photographer for the 'Country Life' magazine, with all of the photographs in this work being taken by Latham.

Latham highlights the ornate and beautiful interior designs and furniture found inside some of the grandest country homes in England, such as Belton House, Coombe Abbey, Hampton Court, Cotehele and Holland House.

With original advertisements to the rear of volume II and III.

Bookplate of Peter Foster, Harcourt, Hemingford Grey. Foster was a distinguished architect who, among other things, was Surveyor to the Fabric of Westminster Abbey.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's cloth, with volume I and II bound in the same pictorial cloth, while volume III is in a plain blue. Externally, very good, with slight bumping to the extremities and rubbing to the joints. A few marks to cloth and a touch of fading to the spines. Damp stain to the rear of III. Hinges are slightly strained but holding firm to all volumes. Bookplate to front paste down. Note tipped-in to front free endpaper of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Loose articles relating to architecture loosely inserted.
