Treves intended for his detailed narrative to be considered a common person's experience, rather than a scholarly or scientific account. Written by Sir Frederick Treves, a prominent British surgeon, and an expert in anatomy who was renowned for his surgical treatment of appendicitis, and is credited with saving the life of King Edward VII in 1902. Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with scattered spotting and minor age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper with a contemporary ink inscription to the edition page.
