The vanishingly scarce first edition.
The autobiography of Charles Jarrott, an English racing driver who, from 1900 to 1904, won the 1902 Circuit des Ardennes race and competed in the Gordon Bennett Cup races of 1903 and 1904.
Jarrott was also a founding member of the Automobile Association (the AA), serving as chairman in 1922.
Illustrated with a colour frontispiece by Leslie Ward, two tables (one of which is folding) and forty-two maps and photographic plates. Collated, complete.
Rebacked, with endpapers renewed.
With the stamp of Montagu Motor Museum to a front blank, alongside a contemporary pencil inscription dated 1906.
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt detailing.
Condition
Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding. Original back strip laid down, and boards restored. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints. Endpapers renewed. Former owner's stamp and pencil inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright. Spotting and instances of foxing to page perimeters throughout.
